Style changes are unlocked by progressing the story and eating meals. Once a style change is unlocked, you can use it in battle by eating certain items.

Ignis Style
A fire-element style that’s perfect for fighting in the inner range. Boosts your ATK and makes your skills deal fire damage. In exchange, your DEF is reduced and you become weak to ice attacks.
Mermaid Style
Use ice magic to crush enemies from the outer range. Increases your magic damage and makes your skills deal ice damage. In exchange, you deal decreased physical damage and become weak to fire attacks.

You can also utilize style changes while exploring. Ignis Style lets you break obstacles while dashing, and Mermaid Style lets you run on top of water. Use the abilities of different styles to expand the range you can explore!
